From the Principal's Desk
Happy New Year to all of you! I am very excited about 2016 and all that is going to occur in the new year. I hope you had an enjoyable holiday season. Students in grades K-2 have begun taking the DIBELS Assessment and M-Class Math Assessment and students in grades 2-8 will participate in the MOY NWEA MAP Assessment starting January 19th. Teachers will analyze the results of this assessment data to assist in their instruction.
Thank you for supporting our annual Holiday Shop. The students enjoyed purchasing gifts for their families and friends. I would like to thank the PTO and other parents for decorating the gym and for assisting our students with their purchases. I really appreciate your involvement and participation in our school.
Once again, the OSA choir did an amazing job at the holiday concert. The students also did a phenomenal job during their performances at the holiday assemblies. I would like to thank Ms. Davis for her efforts in preparing our students for these performances and for the time and energy she puts into our music program. She is the BEST OF THE BEST!!!
Please plan to join us at our monthly PAC/PTO/LSC Meetings on January 25th at 5:30, 6:00 and 6:30 p.m., respectively in the gym. Your presence and input are encouraged. In order to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, school will not be in session on Monday, January 18th.
Dr. Stanley L. Griggs

Please do not send cupcakes and other sweets to school for your child's birthday, due to the new wellness policy implemented by CPS.
Please refrain from sending Flamin Hot products and soda for your childs'/childrens' lunch. Studies have shown these items can be unhealthy for your child. Also, due to sanitary reasons, ALL food brought for lunch MUST be consumed at lunch. Under NO circumstances will food be allowed out of the lunchroom. All leftover food MUST BE DISCARDED.
Computer Lab Needs Your Help!
Reminder: Please complete the CPS Consent Form and Release and list each child you have at Owen, then sign and return ASAP. The signed Acceptable Use Form is necessary for the following reasons:
- Allows each child to access the Internet via the CPS network, which is part of our technology curriculum at Owen
- Allows us to post pictures of our school functions on the website
Your cooperation in returning the forms is greatly appreciated. If you have any question, you may contact me (Mrs.
Morris) at school:
